Your responsibilities when using Mavis
Mavis supports the delivery of school-age vaccination programmes, but it does not replace school age immunisation service (SAIS) teams’ responsibilities for safeguarding, information governance or data protection.
You are responsible for ensuring that you follow your team’s policies and procedures when using Mavis. This includes recognising, recording and escalating any safeguarding concerns.
Where a safeguarding concern is identified, it should be managed through your usual safeguarding process and recorded in line with your SAIS team’s policy and processes.
You should use professional judgement when reviewing consent responses, triage information, clinical notes and any information shared by parents, carers, young people or schools.
You are also responsible for ensuring that personal data is handled appropriately. This includes:
- checking that the appropriate information is going to the correct recipient before sending communications
- only accessing records where there is a legitimate reason to do so
- following local incident reporting processes if information is shared incorrectly or a potential data breach is identified
Mavis does not remove the need for your team’s policy and processes on oversight, escalation, documentation or professional accountability. It is a tool to use alongside your existing processes.
